The great promises of God seem to be only partially fulfilled. The work of the kingdom seems to be moving very slowly, if at all. Unbelievers all around God's people seem to have a better time of it. The people of God are distracted, discouraged & half-hearted in their commitment to the work God has given them to do. For many believers, that describes our situation and the state of our hearts, just as it describes the situation & the hearts of God's people in Haggai's day. The call of Haggai and of this book is to catch again the vision of God's purposes for His people & the world and to work wholeheartedly at what He has given us to do.
